RESOLUTION NO. -1.!.L
A RESOLUTION OF '!HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON,
MEMORIALIZING THE CHARACTER AND PURPOSE OF ANGEL ISlAND
STATE PARK AND OPPOSING USES CONTRARY THERETO.
WHEREAS from time to time proposals and studies are made looking' to
the possible use of all or parts of Angel Island for military, transportation,
industrial and commercial uses; and
WHEREAS Angel Island is a State Park which, it is understood, was
conveyed by the United States of America to the State of California with stipu-
lations that it be perpetuated for its historical and recreational values~ and,
WHEREAS the Department of Parks and Recreation of the State of
California has produced a master plan for Angel Island now ready for review and
approval by the Director of said Department and by the Parks Commission of the
State of California, which plan agencies of the City of Tiburon have reviewed
and endorsed; and,
WHEREAS the obvious virtue of said park, as proposed in said master
plan, is its unspoiled nat~lness, uncontradicted by other uses offensive to
or even destructive of such naturalness; and,
WHEREAS Angel Island is uniquely and conveniently situated with re-
spect to a vast metropolitan population, to whom the experience of a natural
park as a retreat from urban sterility is now and will become increasingly
tmportant to our urban society; and,
WHEREAS said island lies almost totally within the limits of the
City of Tiburon, which city and its Council are mindful of and concerned for
the protection of the island against any use or condition which may tend to
dilute, conflict with or make subordinate the existing and planned character
of the State Park which it constitutes;
NOW, THEREFORE, RE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
THAT this City Council does ask those agencies of government most
specifically concerned with the management, tmprovement and custody of Angel
Island State Park, specifically the United States Secretary of Defense,
United States Secretary of the Interior, Senator Thomas Kuchel, Senator George
MUrphy, Congressman William Mailliard, the Marin County Board of Supervisors,
and other interested agencies and officials, to not permit, endorse or condone
any use, structure or method of opera tion on said island not provided for by
and set forth in the master plan for said State Bark hereinbefore referred to.

THAT this City Council does oppose any military, transportation,
industrial or commercial use of any or all of Angel Island State Bark not a
part of the master and development plans for said park prepared and approved
by the Department of Barks and Recreation of the State of California.

City of Tiburon held on August 12, 1968, by the following vote:
