HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1980-06-21 RESOLUTION NO. 1096 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON URGING OPPOSITION TO PROPOSITION 9 ON THE JUNE 3, 1980, GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, if approved by the voters, Proposition 9 amending the State Constitution would reduce personal income tax revenue collections by 50% of those rates in effect for the 1978 taxable yearsi and WHEREAS, if approved by the voters, Proposition 9 amending the State Constitution would reduce revenue collections by the State $4.9 billion in 1980-81 and $4.4 billion in 1981-82, and by unknown, yet higher amounts in subsequent yearsi and WHEREAS, if approved by the voters, the Proposition 9 amendment to the State Constitution would, according to the League of California Cities, decrease state government programs by 20-25%, decrease state assistance to cities, counties, and school districts by an average of 8%iand WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon finds such reductions in personal income tax revenue collections by the State to be detrimental to the citizens of Tiburon and other cities, counties, and school districts throughout the state. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon does hereby oppose the imposition of Proposition 9 amending the State Constitution, and urges all registered voters of the Town of Tiburon to do likewise voting against Proposition 9 on June 3, 1980.
