RESOLUTION NO. 607,
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON
REIA TIVE TO THE RESC!::IDING OF ADOPTED PROPOSED STATE
HIGHWAY ROUTE 131 IN THE CITY OF TIBURON BE'1WEEN REED
RANCH RenD AND THE TERMINUS OF HIGHWAY 131
WHEREAS: By Resolution of the California Higb&ay Commission adopted
June 23, 1954, the route marked I'Proposed Sta te Highway" on map thereof
signed by B. W. Booker, District EnGineer, datedJatJe 11, 1954, approved June
14, 1954, by G. T. MCCoy, State Highway Engineer, was selected and adopted
as a route for a portion of State Highway Route 131 in Marin County on an
alignment for four (4) lane facility between Route 101 and Main Street in
Tiburon; and did thereby alter and change the ultimate location of said
portion of State Highway from the existing location thereof the location
marked IlProposed State Highway" on said map, provided, therefore, that the
existing highway shown on said map as the existing traV:Q>>iiblQ highway
shown on said map as the existing State Highway shall remain such State
H1~way until such new portion is constructed and available for traffic and
the existing State Highway as shown relocation as provided by law; and
WHEREAS: As in recent years there bas been considerable opposition
by the citizens of Tiburon to the relocation of the existing facility as
envisioned in the original Highway concept, also it has been agreed that the
existing facility will be realigned through the Trestle Glen area; and
WHEREAS: The City of Tiburon is no longer desirous of an expanded
highway facility on new alignment easterly of the aforementioned Trestle Glen
area; and
WHERFAS: The financing of a project of this magnitude is not very
likely in the foreseeable future because of the ~ited funds available for
highway construction and the relative Statewide priorities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the california Highway Commission:
1. Consider rescinding the adopted 4-18ne facility for the portion of
Route 131 between Reed Ranch Road and San Rafael Avenue;
2. Transfer the ownership by making said right-of-way within the City
of Tiburon available to the City of Tiburon for Park purposes as
permitted by law;
3. Retain es"sentially the present alignment between Trestle Glen
and the easterly terminus~of Highway 131.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that a copy of this resolution be transmitted
to the District 4 branch of the State Department of Transportation for further
processing.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Tiburon held on February 25, 1974, by the following vote:
