HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1975-06-09 RESOLUTION NO. 730 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON ESTABLISHING THE TIBURON PENINSULA ARTS COMMISSION WHEREAS: the City desires to assist and encourage citizen participation in the cultural and artistic life of the Community, and WHEREAS: the City has considered the needs of the Community for increased opportunities for cultural and artistic growth and achievement, and WHEREAS: the City has provided initial financial assis- tance for the pursuit of cultural and related artistic endeavors on the Tiburon Peninsula. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Tiburon does hereby create the Tiburon Peninsula Arts Commission. This Commission shall be composed of seven (7)mem- bers appointed by the City Council who shall serve for a term of two years and shall be subject to removal by the affirmative vote of a majority of the City Council. The terms of office of Com- mission members shall be staggered in a manner determined by the City Council. Of the seven (7) members, four (4) shall be residents of the City of Tiburon, two (2) shall be residents of the City of Belvedere, and one (1) shall be a resident of the unincorporated area of the Tiburon Peninsula. The Commission shall elect its own officers and shall adopt such regulations as it may deem necessary or appropriate for the con- duct of its affairs. The City Manager or his designated representative shall serve as staff to the Commission and as liaison between the Commission and the City Council. The Commission shall act in an advisory capa- city to the City Council on all matters pertaining to the arts. The Commission shall prepare and submit for approval of the City Council a specific plan of its future scope of activities and functions, implementing cooperation and co-ordination of all artistic and cultural activities on the Tiburon Peninsula, in- cluding, but not limited to, the promotion of exhibitions, shows, displays and facilities for the creative expression of individual and collective artistic abilities and talents. A semi-annual written report evaluating all phases of the Commission's program and community participation shall be submitted to the Council for their review and consideration. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the basic objectives and goals of the Commission are as follows: 1. To preserve and advance the cultural and historical heri- tage of the Tiburon Peninsula Community. 2. To encourage and sponsor those arts programs and activities which for economic reasons cannot be produced by private cultural groups. 3. To create and maintain a public calendar of proposed cul- tural events in the Tiburon Peninsula. 4. To pursue the use of existing local facilities for such cultural arts activities and to explore the possibility of a permanent peninsula facility for such productions and program. 5. To coordinate with other agencies in the promotion of cultural arts on the Tiburon Peninsula and to pro- mote cooperation between the public and private groups in relation to public appreciation of the arts.
