RESOLUTION NO. 702
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TIBURON REQUESTING THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPER-
VISORS TO INITIATE LEGISLATION AND RE-EVALUATE
PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENTS
WHEREAS, the Marin County Board of Supervisors has recently prepared
a shopping list of bills for Marin State legislators to introduce in
Sacramento; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tiburon's overall assessment increase for 1974/
75 was 14%, with specific increases of 50 to 100% in the Old Tiburon
area; and
WHEREAS, many of those affected by this assessment increase are
residents of long-standing and many of which are elderly senior citizens;
and
WHEREAS, the great majority of these residents are individuals on
fixed incomes who have worked, resided and hope to retire in the City
of Tiburon but now find they are being forced to leave; and
WHEREAS, this problem of property tax assessment inequities is not
unique only to Tiburon, but throughout the County and State of California;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the City Council of the City of Tiburon strongly urges the
Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin to initiate legislation
which would re-evaluate the California law providing that property is
taxed in proportion to its value and that special legislation be afforded
the retired and elderly citizens on fixed incomes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that the Tiburon City Council endorses an
assessment method which would defer taxes on "paper" appreciation until
actual transfer of title.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Tiburon held on February 10
