SPECIAL MEETING
MINUTES
Mayor Kulik called the special meeting of the Tiburon Town Council to order at 8:15 a.m. on
Monday, October 21. 2019, in Town Council Chambers, 1505 Tiburon Boulevard. Tiburon.
California.

PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: Fredericks, Kulik, Thier, Weiner
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: One Vacant Seat
PRESENT: EX OFFICIO: Town Manager Chanis, "Town Attorney Stock,
Town Clerk Stefani

There were none.
ACTION ITEMS
AI-I. Town Council Vacancy—Review requirements and consider options to fill unscheduled
vacancy on the Town Council and direct staff to take necessary steps to begin filling
vacant seat (Office of the Town Manager)
Town Clerk Stefani explained that the Council has two options to fill Councillnember Jim
Fraser's recently vacated seat on the Council: appoint an interim councilmember to serve until
the November 3, 2020 election or call a special election on March 3, 2020. She said both
elections would elect an individual to serve out the remainder of Councihnember Frasers term
until 2022. She reviewed the next steps and estimated costs of both options.
Mayor Kuhk opened the floor for public comment. There was none.
The Council discussed the merits of the two options. Vice Mayor Fredericks said she felt it vvas
important to hold the March election. Several councilmembers agreed and further agreed to not
make an interim appointment until the March election.
MOTION: To direct staff to take the steps necessary to schedule a special election on March
3. 2020 to elect a councilmember to serve for the remainder of COUnellmember
.Iim Frasers term.
Moved: Thier, seconded by Welner
VOTE: AYES: Fredericks. Kulik, Thier. Welner
