HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 2002-06-19 (7) ""' RESOLUTION NO. 34-2002 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON SUPPORTING ASK - ASKING SAVES KIDS WHEREAS, over 3,500 children and teens nationally are killed by gun violence every year, which means that 10 children and teens die each day from guns; and WHEREAS, according to some estimates, over 40% of American homes with children have a gun; and WHEREAS, more reporting of gun violence among youth has increased public awareness; and WHEREAS, the Reed, Bel Aire, Del Mar and Saint Hilary schools with their Parent-Teacher Associations and other schools are supporting ASK, Asking Saves Kids, a national public health initiative that encourages parents to ask relatives, friends and neighbors if there is a gun in their house before sending their children over to play; and r--- WHEREAS, the Reed, Bel Aire, Del Mar and Saint Hilary schools with their Parent-Teacher Associations and other schools, with help from the Marin Chapter of the Million Mom March, united with the Brady Campaign, is sponsoring the ASK program and providing ASK information to families and building community awareness; and WHEREAS, the Town of Tiburon commends Reed, Bel Aire, Del Mar and Saint Hilary schools with their Parent-Teacher Associations and other schools, parents, students and family for supporting the ASK program and helping to keep our children and kids safe; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon does hereby proclaim the Town's support of the ASK program and calls on all our citizens to protect our children and teens from gun violence.
