HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 2002-06-05 (4) RESOLUTION NO. 26-2002 r--- A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON COMMENDING CHIEF ROSEMARY BLISS FOR OVER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE TIBURON COMMUNINTY AND TIBURON FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT WHEREAS, Rosemary Bliss began her fire fighting and fire prevention career in 1973 as the first woman firefighter with the Chautauqua Volunteer Fire Department in upstate New York; and WHEREAS, Bliss was elected Assistant Fire Chief and later went on to become an Emergency Medical Technician in that venue; WHEREAS, in addition to her fire-related interests, Bliss earned a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Elmira College in New York, and a Master's degree in photojournalism from Goddard College in Vermont; and WHEREAS, Bliss brought her skills, education and experience to bear when she joined the Tiburon Fire Protection District in 1981 as its Fire Marshal, being the first female fire marshal in Marin County; and r--- WHEREAS, while working as Fire Marshal, Bliss served two terms as president of the Marin Fire Prevention Officers and became coordinator of the fire investigation team; in addition, she served on the Fire Protection System Committee and Public Education Committee of the NorCal Fire Prevention Officers; WHEREAS, Bliss pioneered a local sprinkler ordinance and introduced NFPA "Learn Not to Bum" curriculum into the Tiburon schools; and WHEREAS, Rosemary Bliss became California's first woman career fire chief in 1993 and has served the District in an exemplary fashion since that time; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council commends Chief Rosemary Bliss for over 20 years of faithful service to the Tiburon community and the Tiburon Fire Protection District, and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.
