HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 2001-10-03 (2) , . -- RESOLUTION NO. 55-2001 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TffiURON IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE "C" FOR THE REED UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT $38 MILLION FACILITIES BOND MEASURE WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Reed Union School District has ordered an electio~ on November 6,2001 (Measure "C") to authorize the sale of up to $38 million in general obligation bonds for the purpose of upgrading and modernizing all District facilities: Reed Elementary, Bel Aire Elementary and Del Mar Middle Schools, and WHEREAS, the bond measure provides that the funds will be used to renovate, modernize and expand the schools to better serve students, staff and community; upgrade inadequate electrical, heating and plumbing systems; increase seismic safety standards; eliminate dry rot; remove asbestos and lead paint; build modern libraries and relieve overcrowding by building additional classrooms, and -- WHEREAS, the Town is aware that Reed, Bel Aire and Del Mar were built in the early 1950's and 1960's with no bond revenues in forty years to repair and modernize these schools, and WHEREAS, by law, bond funds can only be spent on capital improvements, and in addition, the District will establish a Citizen's Oversight Committee to monitor and audit bond expenditures, and WHEREAS, the District's schools are an integral part of our respective communities, with facilities used 365 days per year to serve students, staff and community, and WHEREAS, the District's schools provide quality education to a growing student population, with Del Mar and Bel Aire having achieved California Distinguished School status, and Bel Aire having achieved National Blue Ribbon recognition (Federal Program), NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon hereby expresses its support of the Reed Union School District's November 6, 2001 bond measure (Measure "C';), and encourages members of the community to support the measure as well. ~ & - PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Tiburon Town Council on October 3,2001, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: Bach, Gram, Matthews, Slavitz, Thompson None ABSENT: None C1~:1fR TOWN OF TffiURON Arr~~ / . h DIANE CRANE IA: OPI, T WN CLERK -- --
