RESOLUTION NO. 3012
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
RECOGNIZING THE HEROISM AND VALOR OF
SERGEANT THOMAS AIELLO
WHEREAS, on November 11, 1993 at approximately 4:25 P.M., Tiburon Police
Officers, including Sergeant Thomas Aiello, were requested to assist Belvedere Police
Department on an "attempted arson" call at a residence on San Rafael Avenue; and
WHEREAS, upon arrival, Sgt. Aiello found that an adult subject had trapped his
elderly, crippled mother in the residence, stacked up furniture in one room, poured five-
gallons of gasoline over it, turned on all the gas heaters in hopes that the gasoline would
explode the house; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Aiello determined that it was necessary to enter the residence to
save the elderly lady, knowing that it could very possibly explode at any moment, killing
anyone inside; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Aiello, with a Belvedere Police Officer, entered the residence,
without regard of the risk to his own life; and rescued the female; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Aiello reentered the residence to "vent" the house which helped
ensure that responding firemen would not encounter a potential "bomb", and knowing if
the house exploded, it could also seriously injure neighbors,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on behalf of the residents ofthe Town
of Tiburon, the Tiburon Town Council does hereby officially commend Sergeant Thomas
Aiello for his heroism and valorous actions.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Tiburon on April 6, 1994, by the following vote:
