HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1992-06-10 ~ -~ I r RESOLUTION NO. 2863 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON OPPOSING ANY REALLOCATION OF PROPERlY TAX OR VEHICLE LICENSE FEE REVENUES FROM THE CITIES TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the Legislature's Local Government Budget Working Group has submitted a "Briefing Paper and Options" outlining various methods and strategies in which local Government can help resolve the State budget deficit, and WHEREAS, the Legislature's Local Government Budget Working Group appears to focus its recommendations upon the Cities' present property tax and vehicle license fee revenues as those local monies which could most easily be reallocated to schools and Counties to reduce the State's responsibility for their program funding, and WHEREAS, the proposed reallocation or reduction in these two revenue sources to the Town of Tiburon will amount to $411,561 (Property Tax - $141,291 & Vehicle License Fees - $270,270) for Fiscal Year 1992-93, and WHEREAS, this proposed revenue loss represents approximately 12.1% ofthe Town's projected 1992-93 Operating Budget, and WHEREAS, the Town of Tiburon has in the past and continues to explore sources of revenue, and WHEREAS, this revenue loss, coupled with the Town's present deficit Operating Budget, would result in serious funding problems and significant municipal service reductions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Tiburon does hereby vigorously oppose the specific funding options as proposed by the Legislature's Local Government Budget Working Group and strongly urges the State Legislature to consider other possible Statewide revenue sources, service reductions or long range funding options. PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon on June 10, 1992, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Nygren, Friedman, Thayer, Thompson, Kuhn None None NOES: ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: COUNCILMEMBERS: ALVIN R.
