RESOLUTION NO. 2863
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF TIBURON OPPOSING ANY REALLOCATION OF
PROPERlY TAX OR VEHICLE LICENSE FEE REVENUES
FROM THE CITIES TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the Legislature's Local Government Budget Working Group has
submitted a "Briefing Paper and Options" outlining various methods and strategies in which
local Government can help resolve the State budget deficit, and
WHEREAS, the Legislature's Local Government Budget Working Group appears to
focus its recommendations upon the Cities' present property tax and vehicle license fee
revenues as those local monies which could most easily be reallocated to schools and
Counties to reduce the State's responsibility for their program funding, and
WHEREAS, the proposed reallocation or reduction in these two revenue sources to
the Town of Tiburon will amount to $411,561 (Property Tax - $141,291 & Vehicle License
Fees - $270,270) for Fiscal Year 1992-93, and
WHEREAS, this proposed revenue loss represents approximately 12.1% ofthe Town's
projected 1992-93 Operating Budget, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Tiburon has in the past and continues to explore sources
of revenue, and
WHEREAS, this revenue loss, coupled with the Town's present deficit Operating
Budget, would result in serious funding problems and significant municipal service
reductions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Tiburon does hereby
vigorously oppose the specific funding options as proposed by the Legislature's Local
Government Budget Working Group and strongly urges the State Legislature to consider
other possible Statewide revenue sources, service reductions or long range funding options.
