HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 2023-11-01 (2)Page 1 of 2 Town Council Resolution No. 42-2023 November 1, 2023 RESOLUTION NO. 42-2023 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON DECLARING NOVEMBER 12-18, 2023 UNITED AGAINST HATE WEEK IN THE TOWN OF TIBURON WHEREAS, the Town of Tiburon stands for diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all, irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any characteristic; and WHEREAS, we reject hate, discrimination, and violence, aiming for a prejudice-free community; and WHEREAS, we collectively promote acceptance, respect and tolerance, and unity, enabling residents to live, work, and thrive without fear; and WHEREAS, united, we strengthen and celebrate our town’s rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives; and WHEREAS, the "United Against Hate Week" campaign embodies our collective commitment to foster an environment where every resident can live, work, and flourish without fear of hatred; and WHEREAS, we endorse the "California vs Hate" coalition's mission to combat hate, prejudice, and intolerance such as xenophobia, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti- Muslim hatred, and other bigoted views by emboldened hate groups and individuals and intolerance from our communities, and encourage communities to report hate incidents to the California vs Hate hotline; and WHEREAS, by joining with our fellow California cities, we send a resounding message that we are united in our resolve to combat hate and promote acceptance; and WHEREAS, we call upon all residents, businesses, schools, and organizations to unite against hate, join events, champion inclusivity, tolerance, and unity; and WHEREAS, during this week, we reaffirm our commitment to the following principles: 1. We denounce hate, discrimination, and violence in all forms. 2. We pledge to stand up against hate and support victims of hate incidents. 3. We encourage open dialogue and respectful conversations to bridge divides and promote understanding. 4. We celebrate the richness of our diverse community and the strength it brings to our city. 5. We commit to working together, in partnership with other California cities, to create a safe and welcoming environment for all. Hate hotline at 833-8-NO-HATE or online at CAvsHate.org, in order to combat hate effectively and promote a safer environment for all. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Tiburon is in enthusiastic support of United Against Hate Week, in solidarity with the "California vs Hate" coalition and partners, in our county on November 12 - 18th, 2023, and each and every day beyond.
