ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None CONSENT CALENDAR All items on the Consent Calendar may be approved by one motion of the Commission unless a request is made by a member of the Commission, public or staff to remove an item for separate discussion and consideration. Before approval of the minutes Chair Fong asked that the approval of business cards be added to Action Item #7 from “ongoing projects” in order to move it forward with a motion. Move was challenged by Deirdre McCrohan of the Ark Newspaper, so the item was agreed to fall under Action Item #8 – “ongoing projects” Motion to adopt the change was cancelled. 1. Minutes – March 26, 2019 MOTION TO ADOPT: C. Noguez 2nd: C. Mujica All in favor: AYE ACTION ITEMS 1. Chair Report Perpetual Plaques for awards, Laureate and Historian are finished and mounted. Chair Fong has been working on trying to find a seventh commissioner and encourages other commissioners to do the same. Fong reported on her attendance of the Marin Arts & Culture Action meeting on April and gave a brief synopsis of the meeting. Her strong take-away was the intent to support local cities in their arts projects. 2. Public Art Policy Draft 3.0 Chair Fong gave an update on what the subcommittee members have been doing towards putting together a PA Policy for the town. This encompasses a complete inventory on existing parks, public artwork therein, and the process of recommending new artwork. Chair Fong met with the Town Manager, Greg Chanis, to present the draft. The Artist Laureate and Chair Fong will reach out to meet with interested entities, i.e. POST (Parks, Open Space & Trails Commission), Landmarks, etc. for their input. When the report is ready it will be presented to the Town Council at a special meeting, June 19. 3. Treasurer’s Report & Budget Liaison Pickett reported on the budget Spreadsheets – Current and New Fiscal 2019/20 General Fund: $1559 Special Fund: $ Pickett confirmed there is enough $ in the GF for the upcoming Educator Award reception. Chair Fong asked for clarification on Plaque costs. Pickett confirmed the Town was paying for the “re-do” of existing plaques, the H&A to pay for new plaques. 4. Town Council Presentation – June 19 Chair Fong will have a draft ready at the May 28 meeting for the June 19 meeting. L. Pickett confirmed 6:30 special meeting before the regular Town Council regular meeting. 5. Educator Award Subcommittee member, C. Hall, reported on process of review for all nominees. The subcommittee had multiple worthy nominees and ultimately choose Ella Steinberg, current Director of Music at Del Mar School. She presented a synopsis of her achievements and the nomination itself, presented by the school district. MOTION TO NOMINATE ELLA STEINBERG FOR 2019 EDUCATOR AWARD: C. Hall 2nd: C. Norris All in favor: AYE Reception – May 15 Timeline review and duty roster – to be organized by L. Pickett. 6. Community Art Shows a. Closet Artists C. Norris presented her latest draft of the CA flyer and explained the updates and changes as requested. It was decided to go ahead with the “Mona Lisa” image, despite the risk of copyright enforcement. The question arose about the date – on the front of the flyer, or on the application? It was decided that the applicant will inquire further, and all dates will be on the application. Dates for deadlines were discussed and agreed on. Ark cost? Can it be placed under “non-profit”? Deirdre/Ark said it would have to be a purchased ad. MOTION TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE FLYER AND DATES DECIDED ON: C. Hall 2nd: C. Mujica All in favor: AYE Commissioners proceeded with discussion about the CA application. Concerning the number of artists accepted, it was agreed it should probably be held to one each. The question of juried or non-juried was posed with an unclear outcome. It was decided best not to mention, since the number of pieces that can be accommodated will dictate what pieces are chosen. It was decided not to hold it to only Tiburon/Belvedere but to include the entire Tiburon Peninsula. It was agreed that the existence of a website does not mean the person is a professional or has shown their work before. C. Hall suggested that in lieu of donating a portion of their sale to H&A, that a charge to show, per artwork, be charged. It was agreed that would not be done, instead sale of artwork would be optional. Will the usual artist policies apply in terms of advertising and getting the word out – yes. C. Norris will have the final application draft ready for the May 28 meeting. 7. H&A presence in the front lobby L. Pickett reported on the last rack card draft changes. C. Fong, on behalf of C. Etemad, changes to the copy were suggested, as per email. It was agreed that the changes C. Etemad wanted were not warranted, as the copy already reflected the same ideas. C. Fong did express concern that the copy seemed to imply that H&A was no longer involved in heritage or historical work in any capacity any longer. She would like to see it re- worded to assure H&A is still overseeing its duties in this area. Rewording was discussed to make sure H&A remains viable in their heritage mission for the future. Changes suggested by Etemad were not accepted and the awards area will remain the same. Date to be added at the bottom of the card. 8. New or continuing project updates Business card update – L. Pickett. Town Historian and Laureate were approved to use the town logo on their business cards. C. Etemad had suggested putting the logo in the middle of the card – it was decided to leave it left justified with the copy centered. Phone, email, website and address were agreed upon. There is no direct website link to H&A, it needs to be the Town of Tiburon. Personal verses Town emails – C. Noguez suggested everyone have Town of Tiburon emails. All agreed they can choose what email they would like. It was agreed the address should be included. C. Fong requested that discussion of the use of the town facilities be discussed at the next meeting. 9. Next meeting date confirmed: May 28, 2019 CALENDAR C. Fong asked that the actual “day” of the week be included before the date: May 5: Nancy Nicols Reception – Atrium Gallery – 2-4pm May 8: Jeanne Dana Reception – Community Room Gallery – 6-8pm May 5: Concert at Saint Hilary – Musae – 4pm ADJOURNMENT – 7:45pm MOTION TO ADJOURN: C.
