HomeMy WebLinkAbout07.24.2018 Minutes TOWN OF TIBURON Tiburon Town Hall 1505 Tiburon Boulevard Tiburon, CA 94920 Heritage & Arts Commission July 24, 2018 6:30 p.m. HERITAGE & ARTS COMMISSION JULY 24, 2018 Minutes CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL – 6:30PM Commission members; Fong, Mujica-Beavers, Norris, Noguez, Hall ELECTION OF OFFICERS In accordance with the election of new officers at the first meeting following June: Chair - Commissioner Norris nominates Commissioner Victoria Fong MOTION: Noguez moves to approve Commissioner Fong as new Chair SECOND: Hall VOTE: All in Favor: AYE Vice Chair – Chair Fong nominates Commissioner Kenna Norris MOTION: Noguez moves to approve Commissioner Norris as new Vice Chair SECOND: Mujica-Beavers VOTE: All in Favor: AYE ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None CONSENT CALENDAR 1. Minutes – Approve and adopt: June Meetings 2. Treasurers Report– (Town Liaison to H&A, Patti Pickett) Special Account: $5,558.62 General Account: $2000 new fiscal year: not yet showing $2500 special account has now been paid out in full for new Walking Guide Note: Liaison Pickett advises new, detailed accounting reports are available upon request ARTIST RECRUITMENT – NEW ARTIST EXHIBITION/RECEPTION 1. Lobby Artist : Alexandra Louie – Reception: August 11 2. Lobby Artist : Sept/Oct – Caroluna Lunasangha, artist presented by Commissioner Mujica-Beavers. Group decides unanimously for Caroluna, provided she frames her work properly for hanging. Consider Art Flower Prints presented by former Commissioner Lily Smith. Group decided the preference is to show local, current artists and that if the need arose to fill a time slot and no artist was available; the prints would be a good alternative. Letter of thank you to be sent to Lily. 3. Community Room: Sept/Oct – Group decides unanimously for dual Artist showing: Joe Grenn/Judith Stern 4. 2019 Art Installation Calendar : • Group verses individual installations – Lobby and Community Room Galleries. • Consider Mike Macgruder (current Lobby artist) request for 2019 CR assignment – May/June • Consider Marin Society of Artists (current CR artists) request for 2019 CR assignment C. Fong asks C. Mujica-Beavers if she has any plans to send out a “call for artists”. C. Fong suggests that maybe repeating artists is not the best approach, vis a vis the above requests. C. Mujica-Beavers agrees. C. Group shows are considered, the “call for artists” will go out to groups that showed in 2018, but no promise will be made for 2019. It is suggested the Artist Recruitment committee (Mujica-Beavers and Norris) make contact with the Artist Laureate, Richard Rozen, for his input. ACTION ITEMS 1. Walking Guide, Postcard & Logo – Final review and approval. Lily Smith is thanked for her great job. Final comments: C. Noguez – questions ferry landing, fountain, etc. Poetic license. C. Hall – Very pleased – approves C. Mujica-Beavers & Norris – approves MOTION: C. Hall move to accept final Walking Guide as presented at meeting SECOND: C. Mujica-Beavers VOTE: All in Favor: AYE Print quotes and final proofs will be requested and presented at meeting August 28. C. Fong suggests there be a “rolling out” of the new Guide through the Ark Newspaper. Former commissioner Smith should be invited to the roll-out. L. Pickett presents the sample acrylic brochure box found to showcase the new guide. Choice is the box with the slanted top. Numbers are suggested, anywhere from 2500-7500. Recycled paper? Possible. 2. Heritage Preservation Award – Review of updated 2018 document packet “Call for Nominations” and approval. Timeline approval. Question from L. Pickett: should the award ceremony still be done on Sept. 19. Timeline for nominations and choice can remain the same. C. Noguez feels commission should wait until L. Pickett is back and able to handle the invitation mailing and award arrangements. L. Pickett reminds everyone the dates have to be on all paperwork as it goes out now so decision is needed. Commissioners agree on October 17 Award Reception and Ceremony. Subcommittee: C. Fong to contact another commissioner to set it up. Fran Hall. MOTION: C. Fong moves to accept 2018 document packet and timeline and to change the date of the reception and award ceremony to October 17. SECOND: C. Mujica-Beavers VOTE: All in Favor: AYE 3. Youth Art Program – Commissioner Noguez update Per the commission suggestion at last meeting Noguez met with Artist Laureate to discuss collaboration on her Youth Art Program. Mr. Rozen expressed his desire to work on group art projects with the local schools, whereas C. Noguez is working on a plan to work with individual students. The AL plans on working directly with the Superintendent of the School system, whereas Noguez will be working directly with individual schools and their art departments. Noguez also discussed the possible project with Youth Arts For Healing. C. Fong asked for any other news from YAFH – none yet. C. Fong wanted to insure it was primarily geared to Tiburon students. 4. New or continuing project updates – Open forum for upcoming or new projects – none. L. Pickett pointed out final draft of report being presented to Tiburon Town Council. 5. Next meeting date confirmed: August 28 ADJOURNMENT – 7:22PM
