ACTION ITEMS
1. 2019 Artist Recruitment and Gallery Scheduling
Selection of artists – List of all artists, with websites, and calendars handed out to all
commissioners.
L. Pickett brought up the idea of staggering the shows, upstairs & down. Taking into account the
“Closet Artist”, one month showing. Commissioners decided on two months for CA.
When scheduling CA, it was suggested that spring was too soon to get the word out.
L. Pickett pointed out that there were more artist applicants than gallery slots. This raised the
question of how to choose the artists, what is the procedure.
C. Fong said it would be prudent to exclude the most recent artists of 2018, to provide a fair
playing field for new artists. All individuals and groups will be excluded for 2019. If the need
arises for a fill-in they could be contacted.
Del Mar School: slotted in for March/April, due to the school year schedule. Should the schools be
guaranteed a spot every year? The problem with the 2017 school cancellation after being offered
May/June was of concern to C. Fong in terms of scheduling. She wanted confirmation the schools
would take the space. C. Noguez to call for confirmation of the Mar/April spot with Del Mar and
Saint Hilary.
Discussion was had concerning the various artists on the list. Websites were viewed.
General outline of the calendar was decided on.
2. Public Art Lecture – Dec. 6
L. Pickett will be sending out email invitations to all artists and H&A email lists. Richard Rozen
is emailing his group.
Reception: L. Pickett to pick up items, set-up will be handled by C. Noguez and Hall
3. Community Art Show – “Closet Artists”
Draft flyer and application were passed around for comment.
L. Pickett pointed out the artwork by Peggy Curran, to be fine-tuned.
A few wording changes were made – noted.
C. Etemad: Juried or non-juried? By using wording concerning “acceptance”, it is de-facto “juried”.
Sub-committee will report back.
4. Schools Art Show –
C. Noguez to reconfirm with local high schools on March/April slot.
5. H&A presence in the front lobby – Liaison Pickett
Information hand-out about the H&A Commission at the front entry table shown by Pickett.
Currently one-page hand out. One page or booklet/brochure? General consensus: drive people to
the website with a one-page?
C. Fong wants something to stand out on the front entry table. Two-sided card or brochure
concept. Stand should be prominent.
C. Fong thanked the Ark for the picture of the Artist Laureate which will go on the wall upstairs
in the Town Hall.
6. Website – H&A 1:02:42
Liaison Pickett advised that the old website is decommissioned and archived.
Pickett then when on to display the existing TOT Homepage, explaining the process of creating
the headlines, links and content.
Pickett pointed out the lack of information beginning with the Commission Mission Statement,
then proceeded through the brief outline presented, with examples.
C. Fong said what she wants are a lot of links to information.
Decision on links needed was discussed. Commissioners were asked to provide content.
One year back on calendar artists – include their links.
7. New or continuing project updates –
C. Etemad asked if it is too late to give some sort of support for the current fire victim support,
disaster funding, or holiday support? Money or food funds were suggested. It was then agreed
that the it would be a Town function. C. Fong suggested that any support should be tied to the
Arts or Heritage as the communities start their rebuild.
Thank you note read from Joan Palmero for the Heritage Award honor and reception.
