These awards recognize outstanding achievement in promoting public awareness of heritage and the arts, lauding exceptional commitment, education, contributions, and projects to the Tiburon community. Historically the selection process has been handled by an ad hoc committee, appointed in advance of the nomination date, which would receive and review all nominations received by the deadline. This year, the ad hoc committee leading the 2025 awards process is comprised of Vice Chair Etemad, Commissioner Fong, and Commissioner Noguez. At the first meeting following the nomination deadline, the ad hoc committee presents their choice of nominee and asks the entire Commission to vote on acceptance of that nominee as the recipient for that year’s award. The award recipient is then notified and presented to the Town Council at a future meeting, followed by a reception. Community Educator Award – May, 2025 The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence, growth, support and accessibility in heritage and arts education by an outstanding educator(s) in the Tiburon Peninsula community who has left an indelible impression on our community and who is to be honored for creativity, inspiration, and hard work. This is awarded in May. Previous Recipients: 2015 Aaron Snyder, Del Mar School 2016 Chyah Weitzman, St. Hilary School 2017 Dana Lomax, Del Mar School 2018 Annelies Atchley 2019 Ella Steinberg TOWN OF TIBURON 1505 Tiburon Boulevard Tiburon, CA 94920 Heritage & Arts Commission January 28, 2025 Agenda Item: AI-3 Heritage & Arts Commission Meeting January 28, 2025 TOWN OF TIBURON PAGE 2 OF 2 Heritage Preservation Award – October 2025 The purpose of the Heritage Preservation Award is to recognize outstanding achievement in preserving the Tiburon Peninsula's prehistoric and historic properties. Prepared By: Marissa Miller, Staff Liaison, Heritage & Arts Commission, Administration Heritage & Arts Commission Meeting January 28, 2025 TOWN OF TIBURON PAGE 1 OF 1 STAFF REPORT To: Heritage & Arts Commission Members From: Staff Liaison Miller Subject: Artist Laureate Selection Process Status Update BACKGROUND The prestigious post of Artist Laureate is a Town Council-appointed, Tiburon volunteer position with a four-year term. Its selection and search are led by the Heritage & Arts Commission, they also provide support and promotion of projects throughout the artist’s tenure. An ad hoc committee to interview and select the 2025 Artist Laureate was formed at the November 12, 2025 Special Meeting with Chair Gupta and Vice Chair Etemad. The formal selection committee consists of Chair Gupta, Vice Chair Etemad, an individual involved in the art world but not a candidate, the previous Artist Laureate, and the Mayor or their designee. UPDATE Chair Gupta and Vice Chair Etemad have contacted Richard Rozen (previous Artist Laureate) and Jett Walker (a local artist) to join the selection committee. Town Clerk Dilena is working with Mayor Thier to identify some potential dates for the committee to host panel interviews of the three candidates at Town Hall. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the selection committee contact the applicants to update them on the process, schedule interviews, and present their chosen candidate at the February 22, 2025 H&A meeting for consideration to be appointed the 2025 Artist Laureate. Prepared By: Marissa Miller, Staff Liaison, Heritage & Arts Commission, Administration TOWN OF TIBURON 1505 Tiburon Boulevard Tiburon, CA 94920 Heritage & Arts Commission January 28, 2025 Agenda Item: DI-1 Heritage & Arts Commission Meeting January 28, 2025 TOWN OF TIBURON PAGE 1 OF 1 STAFF REPORT To: Heritage & Arts Commission Members From: Staff Liaison Miller Subject: Artist Laureate Wall Project Status Update BACKGROUND The Heritage & Arts Commission would like to dedicate one wall in the Town Hall building to honor the Artist Laureates over the years. Town staff has authorized the use of the wall to the right of the elevator on the second floor. At the H&A meeting on October 22, 2024, Commissioners approved forming an ad hoc committee to manage this project and appointed Vice Chair Etemad, Commissioner Fong, and Commissioner Feibusch to this committee. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the ad hoc committee and town staff met to discuss the vision for the wall. At this time, we have small pieces of artwork donated by the previous Artist Laureates to be displayed on this wall. Town staff is looking into the cost and logistics of ordering a title sign to hang below the wood trim, as well as an additional strip of track lighting to illuminate the artwork. This track lighting will match or coordinate with the existing lighting in the Community Room. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that an action item be placed on the February agenda to approve the costs associated with the installation of the Artist Laureate wall in Town Hall.
