RESOLUTION NO. 3311
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
HONORING BARBARA GNOSS AND MARILYN KESSLER
AS TIBURON PENINSULA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
1998 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, Barbara Gnoss and Marilyn Kessler have co-edited and published The Ark for 13
years, bringing to the Tiburon Peninsula an award-winning newspaper that keeps its local focus, and
WHEREAS, both women base their publishing policy on the theory that people are entitled to
complete information without editorials, and
WHEREAS, they have always been active and interested members of the community, good
neighbors and concerned citizens, and, in 1997, were the recipients of a Special Certificate conferred
upon them by the City of Belvedere in recognition of their service to the community, and
WHEREAS, Barbara came to the Tiburon Peninsula 29 years ago from her native Oregon to
begin lending her English expertise to the paper, and
WHEREAS, Barbara co-edited the enthusiastically received" Pictorial History of Belvedere
1890-1990", which has become a sought-after historical resource, and
WHEREAS, Marilyn moved through successful writing careers in Missouri, Texas, and
Michigan to ultimately settle in Tiburon 30 years ago, where she continues her education in a variety
of subjects including various foreign languages, and
WHEREAS, the Tiburon Town Council and the Town Staff wait eagerly each Wednesday for
their copies of The Ark in order to see how well they fared in public opinion that week,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon does
hereby publicly commend and gratefully acknowledge Barbara Gnoss and Marilyn Kessler for more
than 40 collective years of service to the Tiburon Peninsula, its people and its business community,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon does hereby join
with the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce in honoring Barbara Gnoss and Marilyn Kessler as
Citizens of the Year for 1998.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon
held on November 4, 1998, by the following vote:
