RESOLUTION NO. JOO2..
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
RECOGNIZING THE PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT OF
SERGEANT LAURA .JUDD
WHEREAS, at 3:30 A.M. on March 5, 1994, Sergeant Laura Judd, along with other
Tiburon Police Officers, responded to a Tiburon residence to an extremely dangerous call
involving a woman firing a shotgun in a residence and the complainant being suicidal; and
WHEREAS, upon approaching the residence, the officers encountered the suicidal
male subject shouting at the officers to shoot and kill him; and
WHEREAS, the officers were suddenly confronted by a shotgun wielding, irate female
who aimed her shotgun directly at the officers, demanding that the officers leave her
property; and
WHEREAS, the officers, taking whatever cover they could (which was minimal), drew
their weapons in their own defense; quickly moved the suicidal subject to safety; aimed their
weapons at the shotgun.wielding suspect, and, for at least one minute, rather than firing
their weapons at her, tried to talk her out of the weapon and divert her attention until
another officer was able to disarm her with physical rather than deadly force;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on behalf of the residents of the Town
ofTiburon, the Tiburon Town Council does hereby officially commend Sergeant Laura Judd
for her actions and professional demeanor in showing self.restraint in not using deadly
force, in a situation where it was justified, and taking an alternative, non-lethal approach,
showing highly, professional conduct.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Tiburon on April 6, 1994, by the following vote:
