RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TmURON
RECOGNIZING CHIEF MATI'HEW ODETIO FOR SUPERIOR
DEDICATION TO THE SAFETY AND WELFARE OF THE
CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
WHEREAS, a strong, experienced and humanitarian Matthew Odetto came to the Town of
Tiburon in May of 200 I by way of the Twin Cities Police Department and Marin County Sheriff's
Department at a time when our Police Department was in great need of fresh and insightful leadership,
and
WHEREAS, with his characteristic humor-based leadership, Matt began to strengthen the
department by promoting key personnel to leadership and specialty positions, mentoring and nurturing his
people to let their talents shine through, and building a strong organizational framework that facilitates
continued polished service to the community, and

WHEREAS, Chief Odetto quickly noted that his department lacked the tools necessary to do a
superior job, and set about to add critical equipment which would allow his people to variously check a
license plate from the patrol car, shoot a perpetrator with a rifle that would not cause him to expire, but
which would definitely give him pause, and defibrillate any failing hearts encountered along the way, and
WHEREAS, stories are legion of Matt's reputation for unselfish acts of kindness to the citizens
ofTiburon, family and friends, and Town employees through donations of his time on charitable causes,
money out of his own pocket, and manual labor on personal time to make sure someone's corner is a little
brighter, safer, or healthier, and
WHEREAS, the years of experience that Chief Odetto has logged thus far should stand him in
excellent stead at the City of San Rafael where the day-to-day challenges loom large.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that Matt leaves Tiburon with the gift of a solid department
whose talented men and women he has molded into role models who serve and protect the citizens both as
capable law enforcement officers and as friends.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council and all Town employees wish
continued success to Chief Matt Odetto as he steps into his new role in San Rafael and make one final
request of him:
MATI, DON'T BE A STRANGER.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting ofthe Town Council on December 6, 2006, by the
following vote:
