RESOLUTION NO. 63-2002
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MOGENS BACH
UPON HIS SELECTION AS THE 2002 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
BY THE TIBURON PENINSULA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WHEREAS, Mogens Bach, a native of Denmark, fell in love with the Tiburon Peninsula
after a visit to California and decided to move here with his family in 1970;
WHEREAS, Mogens' appreciation of the area led him to become one of the Town's most
avid volunteers, starting first with soccer coach, commissioner and referee for the Tiburon
Peninsula Soccer League, whose advocacy eventually led to the acquisition by the Town of
McKegeny Green as a public playing field;
WHEREAS, in 1985, Mogens was appointed to the Tiburon Parks & Open Space
Commission, on which he served for five years, and was successful in persuading the Town to
install landscaping along the multi-use path between San Rafael Avenue and the Belvedere
Tennis Club;
WHEREAS, Mogens next volunteered with "Blackie's Brigade," and along with other
members of that group, cleaned up the former dirt parking lot and turned it into a lovely fenced
recreation area;
WHEREAS, always an advocate of a downtown location for Town Hall, Mogens and
other volunteers gathered enough signatures for a successful ballot initiative; he then volunteered
his professional expertise in design and construction management to assist the Town as a
member of the Building Advisory Committee;
WHEREAS, this involvement inevitably led to Mogens' election to the Town Council in
1997, and by now an American citizen, he proudly declared himself as the first "foreign-born"
Tiburon resident to be elected to the Council;
WHEREAS, after serving one term on the Council, including a year as Mayor, and
ushering in the new millennium, Mogens returned to his businesses full-time, and continues to
volunteer his time as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of
Tiburon is honored to recognize and commend Mogens Bach for his years of dedicated and
continued service to the Tiburon community, and for his well-deserved selection as the Tiburon
Peninsula Chamber of Commerce 2002 Citizen of the Year.
