Town Engineer Sia Mohammadi, and the Town's ADA consultant, Richard Skaff, presented the following three (3) improvement options for downtown Main Street which would address the ADA non-compliance problems: --Option No, 1 consists of undulating sidewalks and hand rails; --Option No, 2 consists of a two-way street, 8-foot sidewalks, no parking on Main Street; --Option No, 3 consists of a one-way street, 8-foot sidewalks, except in front of the Purdy's building, which is closer to 16-feet wide, The first option was more of a matter of information as the Town had previously rejected the proposed improvements, After the presentation, Mayor Hennessy asked for comments from the public, Town officials and Staff concerning the respective options, An Option No, 4 was recommended to the Town Engineer and consultant for consideration which consisted of raising all of Main Street, including the sidewalks, with positive drainage, Support for options was as follows: --Councilmember Thayer Options 2 & 3 - Flat surface --Steve Sears (Business Owner & Chamber President) Option 3 FILE Page 2 May 20, 1997 --Superintendent of Public Works Iacopi Option 3 (concerned about drainage Re: Option 4) --Heritage & Arts Chair Arnett Option 3 --DRB member Larry Doane Would like to see Option 4 --Chamber of Commerce member Ashley Options 3 & 4 --Councilmember Wolf Options 3 & 4 --Red & White Fleet Terry Koenig Options 3 & 4 --Council member Thompson Options 2, 3 & 4 --Paul Krause (Corinthian Island) Option 2 (Interested in engineering For Options 3 & 4) --Mayor Hennessy Options 3 & 4 The primary comments focused upon width of sidewalks, undulation of sidewalk & street areas, traffic circulation, parking, public safety and emergency access, RL.
