To: Lyford Cove Utility Underground Project Property Owners
Re: Lyford Cove Utility Underground Project
Back on January 4,2008, we provided the Lyford Cove neighborhood with an update
on the status of the undergrounding project. Since that time, PG&E and Comcast have
completed their "cut-over" to the underground system. They have also removed the
tops of the utility poles. The Town has resurfaced Paradise Drive, concluding its funded
portion of this project.
We have also been working with some of the utility companies to quiet noisy utility
boxes. Many of these boxes were originally designed to be off the roadway, but
various property owners objected to them being in front of their driveways or parking
areas and requested that they be moved into the road. In this location the boxes are
subjected to heavily-loaded vehicles, such as cement-mixers, that periodically rattle the
lids loose. We will continue to coordinate with AT&T and PG&E on an on-going
maintenance effort.
AT&T is the last utility company to work on their cut-over to the new system. We have
been in contact with AT&T on a continuous basis regarding their work schedule. Over
the past six months, they have provided varying estimates for project completion. I
previously reported to residents who inquired that AT&T anticipated starting their work
by June with completion by August, 2008. They have since communicated a new
estimate. By the time this update reaches you, AT&T will have started their work,
which they now project will be completed by November, 2008, including the removal
of all poles. We regret the delay in their work, but please understand that the Town
does not have any authority to require AT&T to expedite their schedule. However, we
will be checking with them at every opportunity.
Please do not hesitate to call me or Nicholas Nguyen, our Director of Public Works, if
you need further information on the project. We share the neighborhood's excitement
about seeing this project finally completed. Thank you for your patience and
cooperation throughout this long but worthwhile journey.
Sincerely,
') .~
