RESOLUTION NO. 48-2003 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ANDREW THOMPSON FOR IDS 12 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE TOWN OF TffiURON AND THE TIBURON TOWN COUNCIL WHEREAS, Andrew Thompson has distinguished himself through public service to the community where he has lived off and on for more than 38 years, and where he and his partner, Sunny Lyrek, are raising two daughters, Alexandra and Skylar; WHEREAS, Andrew was first elected to the Town Council in 1992, followed by two subsequent terms beginning in 1995 and 1999, and served as Mayor in 1995 and 2001; WHEREAS, Andrew's three terms on the Town Council ranks him as the longest- serving member of Council since the Town's incorporation in 1964; WHEREAS, Andrew's love of the Tiburon community has been demonstrated by his vision for the preservation of open space and his participation in the "Last Chance Committee," the resulting acquisition by the Town of the Harroman and Jay Properties by the Town, and the creation and dedication of a Tiburon Ridge Trail; and /"'"'. WHEREAS, Andrew volunteered his time with "Blackie's Brigade" and, along with other members of that group, helped clean up the former dirt parking lot and turned it into a yet another asset in the Town's inventory of parks and open space areas; WHEREAS, as an advocate of a downtown location for Town Hall, Andrew served as co-Chair ofthe "No Tax Downtown Town Hall Plan," and has proudly served as Mayor and Councilmember in the new Town Hall since its dedication in May 1997; WHEREAS, no one has championed the cause of undergrounding of utilities more than Andrew, who used his influence to try to increase the amount of Rule 20 A& B funds available to the Town through the Public Utilities Commission; and WHEREAS, as a Tiburon elected official, Andrew attended countless meetings with County officials on items of mutual interest such as low-flying airplanes, the placement of public safety radio antennas, recycling and waste management, and transportation issues; WHEREAS, to better serve the needs of the Town and the greater Marin community, Andrew served as Chairman ofthe Marin Economic Commission and the Richardson Bay Regional Agency; and WHEREAS, in order to help clean up California's lakes, bays and waterways, Andrew initiated Assembly Bill 107 and testified on its behalf in its process through the r-. State Legislature; ~ , I""' ~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon hereby recognizes and commends Andrew Thompson for his 12 years of dedicated service on the Tiburon Town Council and to the Tiburon community, and continues to wish him well in his personal, public, and professional endeavors.
