Tiburon, CA 94920 TOWN MANAGERS OFFICE
TOWN OF TIBURON
Dear Mayor Fraser,
We are writing to support the transfer of the Tiburon Commute Ferry Service from the Blue&
Gold Fleet to the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. We believe that
this decision is sound and will serve the best interests of both commuters and the general public.
Questions were raised regarding the safety of the Golden Gate Ferry operating in Tiburon are
without merit and unsubstantiated. Our members are the licensed maritime professionals, men
and women of organized labor, who crew the vessels of both companies. Blue & Gold Fleet
carries about 3.8 million passengers and Golden Gate Ferry carries about 2.5 million passengers
a year safely across the Bay. They both adhere to the highest safety standards and have excellent
records.
In addition, both are excellent operators who respect their employees and understand that good
wages, benefits and union contracts help create a positive work environment, resulting in better
service for commuters.
We believe this transfer of the commute service to Golden Gate Ferry is a great opportunity for
the Tiburon community. We strongly support this decision and are confident that Golden Gate
Ferry will operate an excellent commute service that is safe, and efficient and responsive to the
needs of the community.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the recent transfer, safety concerns
or any other aspect of ferry operations in the Bay Area. Thank you for this opportunity to share
our views with you.
