RESOLUT ION OF THE CITY COUNC I L OF THE
CITY OF TIBURON URGING SOLUTION OF A
BERTHING FACILITY PROBLEM AT THE
OCEANOGRAPH I C RESEARCH LABORATORY
ON THE TIBURON PENINSULA
WHEREAS, The Oceanograph i c Research Laboratory, Bureau of Mi nes,
Department Of The Interior, situated on the Tiburon Peninsula is
engaged in deep-sea research on means and feasibility of recapturing
the minerals from the ocean depths, which research Is of vital Impor-
tance to the people of the State of California; and,
WHEREAS, The Laboratory appears to represent an activity entirely
compatible with the environment of the Tiburon Peninsula; and,
WHEREAS, the inability of the Oceanographic Research Laboratory to
work out arrangements with the Department of the Navy for berthing of
Department of the Interior vessels engaged in the research project
imperils the continued operation of The Laboratory; and
WHEREAS, it appears that there are two possible solutions to the
problem, namely, renovation of the north dock or the relinquishment
by The Department of the Navy of the south dock; and
WHEREAS, fai lure to arrive at some such equitable solution
would probably mean that the Oceanographic Research Laboratory would
have to be removed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Tiburon that the Department Of the Navy and the Department of the
Interior seek immediate and reasonable solution of this problem to the
end that this important facility not be obliged to tenminate its
activities at the present location.
