RESOLUTION NO. 59
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TIBURON SUPPORTING SENATE BILL
NO. 309, A BILL TO ESTABLISH A SAN FRANCISCO BAY CONSERVATION
STUDY COMMISSION
WHEREAS, The great inland body of water which is the Bay of San Francisco is the one
distinguishing natural feature which sets The area known as the metropolitan San
Francisco area aparT from the other great metropol itan areas of this state and nation;
and
WHEREAS, This great natural feature is the major factor in The establ ishment of cities
large and sma I I which exist along its shore I ine and within short distances of thaT
shore; and
WHEREAS, this has occurred because of the fair and equiTable cl imate which the bay
generates; and
WHEREAS, the views of this great body of water have inspired arTists and poets and now
county assessors the latter placing values on Bay Area real property which are among
the very highest in the nation; and
WHEREAS, because of iTS uniqueness this bay is a treasure belonging, to a greater or
lesser extent, to al I of the state in which it is situate; and
WHEREAS, indiscriminate fi I I ing of its shore I ine and diminishing of its size and
natural beauty is a crime of untold magnitude against this and future generations; and
WHEREAS, the Tiburon Peninsula came into being as a community because of its bay side
location; and
WHEREAS, the protection of the values sTemming from this location was the prime factor
in creating the legal enTity that is the City of Tiburon, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tiburon that the Chairman and al I
members of the Senate Government Efficiency CommitTee be implored to consider from
The widest possible view point The merits of SB 309, creating the San Francisco Bay
Conservation and Development Commission;
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that the recommendations of the San Francisco Bay Conservation
Study Commission (Senator J. E. McAteer, Chairman) as incorporated in 58 309, be
adopTed withOUT any weakening of the powers and duties of the San Francisco Bay
Conservation and Development Commission created by this legislation and, lastly,
\E IT RESOLVED that the CiTY of Tiburon urges that funds sufficient to implemenT ful ty
these recommendations be appropriated forthwith and at the earl iest possible time during
this legislative session.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Tiburon on the
2nd day of March 1965, by the fol lowing vote:
