RESOLUTION NO. ~
A RESOLUTION OF THE C~TY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TIBURON REQUESTING THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD
OF SUPERVISORS TO ESTABLISH A COUNTY-WIDE POLICE
SERVICES DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the County of Marin presently taxes all property
in said County a uniform rate to provide patrol services by the
County Sheriff's office, whether within the boundary of a city
or in the unincorporated county; and
WHEREAS, this patrol service is provided only to that
portion of the county which is unincorporated; and
WHEREAS, all of the cities in Marin County have long pro-
tested this practice as unfair and inequitable; and
WHEREAS, the City-County Services Committee, on September 21,
1970, recommended the creation of a County-wide Police Services
District to halt a further extension of this inequity; and
WHEREAS, the Marin Local Agency Formation Commission, on
November 4, 1970, approved the formation of County-wide Police
Services District; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tiburon finds that the creation of
this District will serve to increase the opportunity for the un-
incorporated areas to be provided a higher level of police
protection if they desire without placing further burdens on the
taxpayers of this city for a service which they d~rive no direct
benefit.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Tiburon
urges the Marin County Board of Supervisors to act in the affirma-
tive to create a County-wide Police Services District; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that such action be taken in sufficient
time to insure that the created District can be a taxing jurisdiction
for the fiscal year 1972-1973.
