HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1971-02-09 (2) RESOLUTION NO. ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE C~TY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON REQUESTING THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO ESTABLISH A COUNTY-WIDE POLICE SERVICES DISTRICT WHEREAS, the County of Marin presently taxes all property in said County a uniform rate to provide patrol services by the County Sheriff's office, whether within the boundary of a city or in the unincorporated county; and WHEREAS, this patrol service is provided only to that portion of the county which is unincorporated; and WHEREAS, all of the cities in Marin County have long pro- tested this practice as unfair and inequitable; and WHEREAS, the City-County Services Committee, on September 21, 1970, recommended the creation of a County-wide Police Services District to halt a further extension of this inequity; and WHEREAS, the Marin Local Agency Formation Commission, on November 4, 1970, approved the formation of County-wide Police Services District; and WHEREAS, the City of Tiburon finds that the creation of this District will serve to increase the opportunity for the un- incorporated areas to be provided a higher level of police protection if they desire without placing further burdens on the taxpayers of this city for a service which they d~rive no direct benefit. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Tiburon urges the Marin County Board of Supervisors to act in the affirma- tive to create a County-wide Police Services District; and FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that such action be taken in sufficient time to insure that the created District can be a taxing jurisdiction for the fiscal year 1972-1973.
