HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1971-01-11 (5) RESOLUTION NO. 332 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON, COMMENDING WILLIAM F. JOHANSEN FOR THREE AND ONE-HALF YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS CHIEF OF POLICE SERVICES WHEREAS, william F. Johansen, having begun his Marin County professional police career in June of '1960 with his appointment as patrolman, and WHEREAS, william F. Johansen, having risen steadily to achieve the rank of lieutenant in 1966, was appointed in June 1967 as the second Chief of police Services for the recently incorporated City of Tiburon, which City contracted with the County of Marin for its police services, and F' f l i l , ~ WHEREAS, in recognition of his high level of professional service in this position, the City of Tiburon in July 1968 designated him Captain-in-Charge of the Tiburon office where he served until December 15, 1970, when he accepted appointment as Chief of the Juvenile Bureau of Marin County, and WHEREAS, during his three and one-half year tenure in this position Captain Johansen displayed a personal interest in the community considerably beyond the duties of his office in such ways as: (a) initiating and obtaining sponsorship for the 1969 and 1970 Veterans Appreciation Days by which Tiburon paid tribute to over one hundred wounded veterans of Viet Nam; (b) providing his own' boat as a marine rescue unit for the Tiburon police and by himself participating on several oc- casions in the saving of human life and of small craft from the treacherous waters of San Francisco Bay; (c) organizing and overseeing the training of the students of Reed School into the School District's first traffic patrol unit; (a) providing helpful and friendly cooperation to the business community whenever local police problems arose; (e) establishing a fine personal rapport with the youth of the community; and (f) choosing to make his home in the City of Tiburon where he continues to live. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tiburon that it officially recognizes and enthusiastically commends William F. Johansen for his outstanding services to this community and wishes him well in his professional career advancement which is reflected by his appointment to the responsible and important position of Chief of the Juvenile Bureau, County of Marin.
