RESOLUTION NO. 294
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON
EXPRESSING CONCERN OVER MILITARY INVOLVEMENT IN SOUTH-
EAST ASIA, URGING ORDERLY WITHDRAWAL OF MILITARY FORCES
FROM THAT THEATER, AND ASKING FOR AN EXPLORATION OF MEANS
TO PERMIT GREATER PARTICIPATION BY THE YOUNG IN POLITICAL
PROCESSES.
PREAMBLE:
1. Deep-seated concern exists among Tiburon's citizens
over continuing, large-scale military involvement of
the United States in the war in Southeast Asia. This
concern, which relates to important constitutional
and moral questions, has intensified as a result of
extension of the war into Cambodia;
2. The application of resources to large-scale military
operations diverts from local government the means
necessary to meet pressing and important needs;
3. There is danger of further alienating our youth, many
of whom question the effectiveness of the democratic
process. There is a need to encourage mechanisms by
which they can participate to the fullest extent in
the elective process, especially in the 1970 campaigns.
IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED:
1. The City Council urges our President, Legislature and
Congress to recognize the deep concern on the part of
citizens of this community over the war and especially
over its extension or enlargement;
2. The City Council urges prompt cessation of offensive
operations and orderly withdrawal of United States
forces from all parts of Southeast Asia;
3. Finally, the City Council endorses exploration of all
approaches by which our youth ca.n take greater part
in the political and elective process.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Tiburon held on
May 25
