A RESOLUTION OF mE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI1'Y
OF TIBURON COlotlENDING MRS. WILLIAM J. SlHPSON
FOR HER EN'l'HUSJASTlC SPIRIT, ENERGY AND DETER-
HINA TION WHICH SO GREA TLY ENRICHED 1HE nlnJRON
COMMUNITY DURING l'BE 1971-72 HOLID!\Y SEASON
WHEREAS, Mrs. William J. Simpson, a recent resident of TiburoD, greatly
admired a fifty foot specimen of Sequoia Gigantea on the property of her
neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. BertOn Bennett, which Sequoia was planted there in
1914, and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Simpson thought of the pleasure it would give the community
if this magnificent, symmetrical tree could be bathed in soft, white lights to
shine forth from its high hill and be visible from Tiburon, Belvedere, the Bay
and the City of san FranciscQ, and
WHEREAS: In order to accomplish this objective, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson
obtained permissioD from the Bennetts to illuminate their tree and then forth-
with, at their own expense, employed a professional electrical decorating firm
to accomplish this purpose as their gift to the City of Tiburon for the Holiday
Season of 1971-72;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
'l1u1t the City Council of the City of Tiburon commends and congratulates
Mrs. Simpson for her enthusiasm and energy in pursuit of her objective. 'Ibis
1DUtual cooperation by some of our oldest and our newest residents thus has
given so 1DUch pleasure to so many, and
BE IT FUR'mER. RESOLVED:
That the City Council of the City of Tiburon expresses its desire that
ways will be found in succeeding years to establish as a continuing tradition,
the annual, non-commercial illumination of this truly magnificent Sequoia a8 our
community's living Christmas tree.
ElSSBD AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Tiburon City Council held
on December 27,1971, by the following vote:
