HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1971-10-26 RESOLUTION NO. 398 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TIBURON EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO TIlE CITIZENS OF THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS ON TIlE WESTERN SIDE OF TIlE TIBURON PENINSUlA FOR THEIR EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE ANNEXA TION TO THE CITY OF TIBURON WHEREAS: The Tiburon Peninsula is an identifiable geographic whole; and WHEREAS: Those areas which are outside the present City limits have, nevertheless, always been within the incorporated City's sphere of interest; and WHEREAS: Development of remaining open land and the increasing need for municipal services in these unincorporated areas has greatly accelerated in the past few years; and WHEREAS: There are many citizens in the unincorporated areas who believe that control of development and the provision of municipal services can best be provided by the smaller local unit of government that is the City of Tiburon; and WHEREAS: Faith in this concept impelled many to work diligently toward the end that an election be held to determine the future direction of these unincor- porated areas; and WHEREAS: Such effort resulted in an election and the opportunity for all to speak via the electoral process on October 19, 1971. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The City Council of the City of Tiburon, while regretting that annexation was not approved, expresses to all who participated in this process its deepest appreciation for their efforts, in particular to: John Bell Mr. & Mrs. James Doody Jr. Mr. & Mrs. Glen Foulger Mr. & Mrs. Alex Gorman Mr. & Mrs. John Hall Mr. & Mrs. Paul Hecht Mrs. Gail Shaw Evan Hirsch Col. Robert R. Judson Mrs. Lynn Kuhn Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Miller Mr. & Mrs. Richard Park Mrs. Sue Rochester Samuel B. Umphrey all of whom gave unstintingly of their time in this effort; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: Having come to know far more intima tely the problems and concerns of the citizens of the Strawberry, Bel Aire, Bayview Heights and Eagle Rock areas during the recent election campaign, the City Council of the City of Tiburon now reiterates its determination to continue, in every way it is able, to work together with the residents of unincorporated Tiburon in the solution of our many mutual problems to the end that growth toward a true community and a unified approach to attaining community goals will be achieved, regardless of tbe location of the City's boundaries.
