HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 1971-10-18 RESOLUTION NO. 397 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON O~pbSING GERRYMANDERING OF S7~T~ SENATORIAL DISTRICTS IN !1ARIN COUNTY AlTD THE TIBURON PENINSULA. t1HEREAS, the State Senate is in the process of reapportioning the senatorial districts in accordance with revised population figures; and ~VHEREAS, in the course of such redistricting, there is the possibility that the political, economic, and geographical integri ty of Harin County may be violated for purposes of partisan political advantage and consideration of certain incumbents all to the detriment of the citizens; and !1HEREAS, it is possible that the Tiburon Peninsula itself would become separated from the rest of Harin County in the event redistricting based on such considerations is accomplished; NOt'1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, (1) The City Council of Tiburon strongly opposes any and all gerrymandering of state senatorial districts which would result in the removal of the Tiburon Peninsula or any part thereof from the rest of Harin County. (2) The City Council strongly urges that redistricting be accomplished along logical geographical lines, with the prime consideration being preservation of Marin County intact within any revised senatorial district, and inclusion of Marin County with other areas having like community interest. (3) The City Council strongly urges that partisanship and consideration of political personalities be made subserviant in the redistricting process to the logical interests of the electorate.
