RESOLUTION NO. 457
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CTTY
OF TIBURON CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION IN AREAS
OF THE C TTY OF T IBURON IN WH ICH THERE IS
DANGER OF FLOOD ING
WHEREAS, the City of Tiburon has heretofore adopted by
reference the 1970 Edition of the Uniform Building Code, Volume 1;
and
WHEREAS, Section 20l(a) of the Uniform Building Code as
adopted by the City of Tiburon prohibits any person, firm or cor-
poration from erecting, constructing, enlarging, altering, repair-
ing, improving, moving or demolishing any building or structure
without first obtaining a separate building permit for each build-
ing or structure from the Building Inspector; and
WHEREAS, the Building Inspector must examine all plans and
specifications for the proposed construction when application is
made to him for a building penn it; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tiburon is aware
that the City of Tiburon does have special flood hazards;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Tiburon:
Prior to the issuance of a building permit the Build-
ing Inspector shall, in all flood-prone areas:
1. Review all building permit applications to deter-
mine if the proposed construction is consistent with the
need to minimize flood damage.
2. Review all applications to determine if the site
of the proposed construction is reasonably safe from flood-
ing and make such recommendations as are deemed appropriate.
3. Require the applicant to:
a. Provide for construction which will prevent
the flotation, collapse or lateral movement
of the structure or portions thereof which
might result from flooding.
b. Provide for the use of construction and
utility materials and equipment that are
resistant to flood damage.
c. Utilize construction methods and practices
designed to minimize flood damage.
d. Provide for adequate drainage in order to
reduce exposure to flood hazards.
e. Elevate and otherwise construct and site
utilities and facilities (including sewer,

gas, electrical and water systems) in such
manner as to minimize or eliminate potential
flood damage.
4. Insure that all applicants for building permits
in flood prone-areas are acquainted with the provisions of
this resolution.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Tiburon held on July 24th , 1972, by the
following vote:
