RESOLUTION NO. 506
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIBURON
RECO~~NDING COMMON ZONING AND SUBDIVISION CONTROLS FOR
CITIES AND THE COUNTY OF MARIN BASED UPON AN ADOPTED
IAND USE PIAN
WHEREAS, the cities of Marin have been concerned that the unincor-
porated land surrounding cities is normally subdivided and developed as residential
areas, requiring urb;a n services; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature has given cities the right to adopt
master or general plans covering any land outside the boundaries of the city, which
in the judgement of a city's planning commission bears relation to its planning; and
~ffiEREAS, the Legislature has also required that the Local Agency For-
mation Commission shall develop and determine the "sphere of influence" of each
city in the county, and that this "sphere of influence" is a plan for the ultimate
physical boundaries and service are of a city; and
WHEREAS, to fully execute the Legislature's intent and purpose in the
encouragement of the orderly formation and development of the fringe areas surroun-
ding cities it is necessary that county zoning and city zoning in such fringe areas
be in conformity;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of Marin and each city
adopt common zoning and subdivision controls for the areas that lie within the
"sphere of influence" area of each city; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that no rezoning of land or major subdivisions
be approved by the county until a commonly agreed upon land use plan has been adopted
by the county for such areas.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Tiburon held on February 13, 1973, by the following vote:

ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None
