PRESS RELEASE
BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPOINTS NEW REED UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
SUPERINTENDENT
The Board of Trustees of the Reed Union School District unanimously approved Dr. Steven Herzog as
Superintendent of the Reed Union School District at a special meeting on May 10.
Dr. Herzog currently serves as the Interim Superintendent of the Douglas County School District (DCSD),
in Castle Rock, Colorado, a K-12 district with over 56,000 students. Prior to his term as Interim
Superintendent, Dr. Herzog served as the DCSD Chief Operating Officer, Director of Human Resources,
Elementary Principal, teacher contract negotiator, administrative compensation expert, and performance
pay manager for both certified and administrative programs.
In addition to his work in DCSD, Dr. Herzog has broad experience in public education, beginning in
Wisconsin and Arizona in his roles as an elementary, middle school, and high school teacher, elementary
school assistant principal and principal.
The members of the RUSD Board of Trustees expressed their thanks to Superintendent Christine Carter
for her twelve years of service to the students of the District. Her announcement at the start of the school
year of her plans to retire in June initiated the search process that led to the hiring of Dr. Herzog today.
Regarding the appointment of Dr. Herzog, Board President Lisa Mathews stated, "The Board understands
the community has come to expect strong, visionary leadership for our District and we believe Dr. Herzog
will meet and exceed those expectations. Steve brings a reputation for open communication,
collaboration, and innovation. He is a highly respected educational leader in Colorado, where he has
spent the last fifteen years. In addition to his administrative experience, Dr. Herzog is a leader in
teaching educators, having served as an adjunct professor at Regis University and as a trained facilitator
with McREL." President Mathews reported Dr. Herzog has signed a three-year contract with the District,
effective July 1, 2010.
Dr. Steven Herzog and his wife Diane have been married nearly 25 years and have two sons, one a
freshman at Colorado State University and the other a junior at the University of Colorado, Denver.

Cares
By way of introduction, I am Bruce Beckham, the Executive Director of Tourism Cares, a worldwide non-profit
organization supported by the tourism industry and those who share our mission to preserve the travel experience
for future generations.
Among the many goals we pursue including giving grants around the world to natural, cultural and historic sites
and awarding scholarships to the future leaders in tourism, Tourism Cares organizes an annual volunteer program,
Tourism Cares forAmerica. This event engages travel and tourism professionals to help clean up and restore
remarkable sites in America that need care and rejuvenation - places such as Ellis Island, New Orleans, the
Mississippi Gulf Coast, Mount Vernon and Gettysburg.
On June 3 & 4, 2010, Tourism Cares will welcome more than 300 of these volunteers from all over North America
to do the same at Angel Island in San Francisco Bay. As you know, Angel Island, a California State Park, is a place of
historic significance to Americans as well as international visitors and to the citizens of California as a recreational
area. Of particular poignancy is the island's place in American history for those immigrants who came to our
shores at the "Ellis Island of the West" to seek a better life.
It would be an honor to have you join us to demonstrate your support of tourism and our endeavors in California.
Your participation, from as brief as a few welcome remarks at the Thursday night reception to joining in on the
volunteer work on Friday, would be most welcome.
Tourism Cares forAmerica projects are highly regarded by the travel industry, the local and national press and the
communities in which they take place. We believe that this effort in San Francisco will be among the most popular
we've conducted.
Please consider putting Tourism Cares forAmerica events - either the afternoon of Thursday, June, 3rd or the work
day on Friday, June 4th - on your calendar and favor our volunteers from the travel industry with your attendance.
To learn more about Tourism Cares and our accomplishments, please visit www.tourism.cares.or and please
contact me personally at bruceb@tourismcares.org with any questions you may have. I await your favorable reply
with great anticipation.
Sincerely yours,
Bruce Beckham
Executive Director
Regular Meeting
BELVEDERE-TIBURON LIBRARY AGENCY G E S T
Belvedere-Tiburon Library, Tiburon, California
March 15, 2010
MINUTES
Members Present: Ann Aylwin, Mary Falk, Beverlee Johnson, Steger Johnson and Bill Kuhns
Members Absent: Chair Lois Epstein and Ann Otter
Staff Present: Deborah Mazzolini, Library Director; Mary Vella, Board Clerk
CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Kuhns called the meeting to order at 6:15PM.
OPEN FORUM:
STAFF, BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
1. Chair's Report
In the absence of Chair Epstein, Vice Chair Kuhns presided over the meeting.
2. BTLF Report
Director Mazzolini gave the report given the absence of BTLF President Heather Cameron.
A lease has been signed for space at the Boardwalk in order to open a used book store. The lessor,
Belvedere Land Company will provide flooring, paint and other improvements. The rent is $600 per
month for one year, with a renewal option for two more years. The Foundation plans to run the store
with volunteers and be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
The annual Library Society party was held on Thursday, March 11. It was the opening night of the
Gently Used Art Auction.
The Petrocelli Luncheon is scheduled for May 4th at the San Francisco Yacht Club.
3. Library Director's report - Deborah Mazzolini
A preliminary draft budget was distributed which showed expenses fairly flat to start. Once again, ERAF
has not been budgeted. Interest earned to date this fiscal year on cash reserves in LAIF is lower than
anticipated so estimates for next year are lower still. In December the City of Belvedere received more
property tax revenue than budgeted and gave their staff a 1.5% salary increase mid-fiscal year. The
Town of Tiburon has no plans to increase staff salaries this year or next. The CPI index grew.7%
according to the Association of Bay Area Governments during 2009. In prior years the Library used the
City and Town as guidelines as well as the CPI index for salary adjustments.
4. Financial statement for February 2010
A review of the Library's cash balances on page 4-5 of the agenda packet, suggests that the cash
available after deducting reserves and designated funds from total cash in Wells Fargo, the Well Fargo
CD and LAIF, has not increased for the first time ever year-over-year in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan or Feb.
The BTLA asked if it might be possible that the interest rate on the Wells Fargo CD could be higher than
on the LAIF funds.
5. Committee Reports
The Program Committee calendar is nearly filled for the remainder of the fiscal year. The Committee is
planning a Senior Fair from July 13-16. The week will be scheduled with lots of Senior-specific
programs on pertinent topics.
The Gently Used Art Auction grossed over $8,0.00 this year and was considered a success by the Art
Committee with the involvement of everyone on the Committee.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
6. Approval of minutes of February 8, 2010
7. Approval of warrants and in house check register February 2010
A motion to approve the minutes of February 8 made by Trustee Steger Johnson and seconded by

TRUSTEE CONSIDERATIONS
8. Building Program Expansion and EIR Update
Scott Anderson, Community Development Director for the Town of Tiburon (TOT), revised his estimate
and believes the draft EIR will be delivered to the TOT by early April. The Planning Commission (PC)
will hold three public meetings and then the topic will go before the Tiburon Town Council.
The Foundation Council would like to see a trial run of the staffs power point presentation on the current
status of the Library and the future expansion.
9. Resolution 184-2010 Recognizing and Commending Gary Ragghianti, Esquire for His
Distinguished Service to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency
A motion to adopt Resolution 184-2010 Recognizing and Commending Gary Ragghianti, Esquire for His
Distinguished Service to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency was made by Trustee Steger Johnson
and seconded by Trustee Beverlee Johnson. All trustees were polled individually and the resolution
passed unanimously. The resolution will be framed before presenting it to Mr. Ragghianti.
10a. Workroom and Public Copiers Leases
The staff has reviewed the proposals to replace the copiers and determined that for now the best
solution is to lease a new combination B&W/Color copier and color printer for the workroom only. The
three public copiers and color printer will be owned by the Library. This configuration will save the
Library nearly $5,000 per year. The lease was not available for review until today. A motion for
conditional approval of the copier lease based on a review by Trustee Steger Johnson, made by Trustee
Beverlee Johnson and seconded by Trustee Falk, passed.
10b. Proposal to Replace all Toilets
The five toilets and one urinal in the public restrooms are showing signs of age with regular leaks and
difficulty flushing. A proposal to replace the toilets was made by Burkell Plumbing. Trustee Steger
Johnson asked whether a waterless urinal had been considered as an alternative to the current one.
Administration agreed to enquire about this option. The Board agreed to replace the toilets in any event.
A motion to approve the proposal by Burkell Plumbing for $5,290.00 made by Trustee Steger Johnson
and seconded by Trustee Beverlee Johnson was approved.
