As you well know, these cameras were set up at the two entrances to the town of Tiburon, the first near the on-ramp to the 101 highway on Tiburon Boulevard and the second at the more remote access through Paradise Drive. I send this letter urging you to reconsider the functionality of these cameras and whether they are worth the cost and effort taken to maintain and run them. I believe the cameras violate certain privacy rights that are held by the general public under the establishment of the U.S constitution and as a long time resident of Tiburon, I find their existence a negative scratch against a very beautiful town. While the cameras have indeed proved to provide some level of success, that being three arrests towards fairly low-scale crimes in their one to two year lifetime, I don't come to find the benefits to outweigh the costs. As a opponent towards the growth of the `Big Brother' attitude towards government, this being the need to take increasingly drastic action towards seemingly aiding the security of society, I find the action of passing and putting into place such a system a major violation of our privacy. According to the Fourth Amendment, we the people are specified the right against unreasonable searches through law and by maintaining a constant video feed, the capture of innocent people's lives is achieved to which there is no guarantee to the privacy of that media. Furthermore, Tiburon as well as Marin has the great benefit of having extremely low crime rates and given that, the potential to any major arrests is fairly low and deems the existence of this surveillance in the first place unnecessary. As an unessential expenditure in a recessional period, I strongly believe that the system should be shut down and taken out of place in the coming year. Taking these several arguments into account, I hope that you consider my opinion as an option to a serious and highly debated issue. The rights of the people of Tiburon should not be contended by the workings of such an unwanted method. I would love to hear your own opinion towards the issue of the cameras and how you believe they benefit the town of Tiburon. Thank you once again for your time and consideration to my personal opinion. Sincerely, , Ryan Cox/ 179 Stewart Drive Tiburon, CA 94920 DIGEST RECEIVED September 4, 2011 SE- P 14 7 The Honorable Jeff Slavitz Council Chambers at Town Hall TOWN MANAGERS OFFICE TOWN OF TIBURON 1505 Tiburon Boulevard Tiburon, CA 94920 Dear Jeff Slavitz, RE: 43 Home Subdivision in Tiburon After almost four decades of red tape the Martha Co. has convinced the County Planning Commission to review their Easton Point Project. This project includes building a 43 subdivision of homes on Paradise Drive. They plan to put the 43 homes over a 110 acre area There has been a 3 8 year debate about how may homes they should build, where they should build, and even if they should build. I believe these homes will have a negative on the local community, since not only do they ruin views and scar the hillside but they pose health and safety issues. The first concern, I have, is that fact that many views, from places like Heathcliff Drive, Ayala Cove, and Tiburon Ridge, will be altered if not ruined. The houses and construction will leave the hillsides scarred. A planned water tank will line the ridge creating a "great concrete road running up the hillside," says Commissioner Don Dickenson. Not only will this water tank take up open space but it will use up mass amounts of water. Holding 180,000 gallons of water at a time, the tank would constantly need water for the homes. According to a planning analysis the tank would be "highly conspicuous" and would consume tons of water. Another matter would be the noise that the construction would cause. This could disrupt the lives of many living nearby, as the project would take years to complete. The vehicles for construction as well as the excess of homes in a smaller area would create traffic along Paradise Drive, Tiburon Boulevard, and Highway 101. This could form unnecessary traffic jams, accidents, and injuries. Along with the potential danger comes the pollution that would be excreted into the environment should the project continue. The construction equipment, construction vehicles, and private vehicles would spew more green-house gases into the air. As well as the air pollution the land will also be ravaged. Construction would tear into the natural ecosystem, disrupting plant and animal life across the peninsula. The initial plan includes cutting down over 750 trees in the area. Once the soil levels are damaged or disturbed a higher chance for landslides occur. This would pose a risk to not only the people moving in, but the construction workers, current residents, and even people driving through the area. It seems clear to me that the safety of a large number of people as well as the environment should come before oversized housing for only a few people. The public's safety and the protection of the local ecosystem cannot be compromised. We cannot afford to waste resources in this economy and the growing global warming conflict. The benefits in building these homes are greatly outweighed by the risks they pose. We cannot sacrifice the needs of the many for the wants of the few. I strongly urge you to vote against the building of these homes.
