Congratulating
MATTHEW C. 01DIETTO
On the Occasion of His Retirement
WHEREAS, Matthew C. Odetto, San Rafael Police Chief and a leader in Marin County law
enforcement for more than thirty years, retired on August 31 st, 201 1; and
WHEREAS, Matt had a long and colorful career, beginning in 1979 as a Police Cadet with the
City of Larkspur which later evolved into the Twin Cities Police, and then becoming a sworn
deputy with the Marin County Sheriff~s Department, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant
while serving in virtually every division within the Department; and
WHEREAS, in 2000, Matt was borrowed from the Sheriffs Department for duty as Tiburon's
interim Chief, providing, fresh and insightful leadership to the Tiburon Police Department; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Matt was given an unprecedented vote of confidence by the Tiburon
Police Officers Association, which strongly urged his appointment as permanent Chief, and in
May of that year became the Town of Tiburon's fifth Chief of Police, ushering the Department
into the 21 st Century (a year or two late); and
WHEREAS, Matt worked closely with the men and women of the Police Department to
establish a renewed sense of pride and dedication and, even more impressively, helped create a
new sense of unity between the Department and the entire Town staff, and
WHEREAS, in 2000, Matt accepted the position of Chief of Police of the City of San Rafael,
leaving the Tiburon Police Department a much improved organization; and
WHEREAS, Matt is a true leader and a genuine police professional dedicated to the highest
standards of ethical behavior and service to his community; he is one heck of a crime fighter!
Now, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that 1, Jeff Slavitz, Mayor of the Town of
Tiburon, on behalf of the entire Tiburon community, do hereby express our most sincere
appreciation to Matthew C. Odetto for his many years of service to the people of the County Of
Marin. You will always remain in our hearts and be considered our very dear friend.
