HomeMy WebLinkAboutTC Res 2012-10-17RESOLUTION NO. 39-2012 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE A ON THE NOVEMBER 6, 2012 BALLOT WHEREAS, Marin County residents cherish their parks, agricultural land and open space areas and want to continue to be a good stewards of these lands for future generations; and WHEREAS, budget pressures and dwindling resources have led to the deterioration of county parks and preserves, and placed unprotected farmland at risk of development; and WHEREAS, on August 7, 2012, the Marin County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance to be placed on the November 6, 2012 ballot that would increase the local sales tax by one-quarter percent for a period of nine years and is estimated to generate $10 million annually for Marin County parks, open space, and farmland preservation; and WHEREAS, the ordinance contains an expenditure plan which calls for 65% of the funds to protect or restore natural resources and maintain existing county parks and open space preserves and natural lands; 20% to be dedicated to farmland preservation of family fauns and ranches through conservations easements and similar methods; and 15% to be available as grants to cities, towns and special districts to maintain, restore or renovate existing parks, open spaces preserves, recreation programs and vegetation to promote biodiversity and reduce wildlife risks, as well as to construct new parks and recreational facilities or acquire parklands; and WHEREAS, the Town of Tiburon stands to benefit greatly from passage of this ballot measure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon formally endorses Measure A on the November 6, 2012 ballot and urges all voters in the Town of Tiburon to vote for passage of this measure.
