Commending the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District
and its Bus Operators for over 40 years of Service
Whereas, Golden Gate Transit, as part of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway &
Transportation District, has operated public transit bus service since January 1, 1972, connecting
Marin, Sonoma, and San Francisco counties;
Whereas, Golden Gate Transit initiated service in 1972 and has since provided a vital
public transportation link in the lives of thousands of North Bay residents;
Whereas, Golden Gate Transit has successfully aided in easing traffic congestion
across the Golden Gate Bridge, in the Highway 101 Corridor, and through Marin County;
Whereas, Golden Gate Transit has served as the sole operator of essential public transit
service for residents of the Town of Tiburon since 1972;
Whereas, Golden Gate Transit also operated local bus service connecting Mill Valley
at Strawberry Village and the Tiburon Ferry, beginning in 1973 and continuing through 2009
with a dedicated Tiburon Ferry Shuttle route;
` Whereas, Golden Gate Transit has provided dedicated, reliable, safe, efficient,
continued to service to Tiburon, via various routes since 1972, carrying thousands of passengers
and students over the decades;
Now Therefore, Be it Resolved that the Tiburon Town Council, in recognition of
many years of dedicated service by many Golden Gate Transit Bus Operators and many others at
Golden Gate, extends a grateful farewell and thanks to all who have served and supported the
Tiburon Peninsula service since the beginning and through Saturday, August 3, 2013, the final
day of the Route 19 and all other local bus routes operated by Golden Gate Transit.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Tiburon Town Council on August 7,
2013, by the following vote.
