A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TIBURON
WAIVING THE TOWN'S NAMING POLICY AND RENAMING BLACKIE'S
GARDEN AS "HARVEY'S GARDEN"
WHEREAS, the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation, at the urging of Harvey Rogers, spearheaded the
creation of a garden in Blackie's Pasture which became known as Blackie's Garden when it
opened in 1996, and
WHEREAS, volunteer Master Gardener Harvey Rogers has consistently provided both labor and
leadership in planning, maintaining and enhancing Blackie's Garden since its inception, creating
a native plant garden which has over 2500 plants along with markers identifying the plant names
for interested gardeners, and
WHEREAS, Harvey leads a dedicated group of volunteer Master Gardeners who thrive on the
interaction of appreciative passersby, imparting wisdom and enthusiasm about the garden and
who help make the magic of Blackie's Garden happen, and
WHEREAS, the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation wishes to honor and thank Harvey Rogers for his
tremendous contribution to this patch of beauty, which is shared and appreciated by all on our
peninsula, by renaming the garden "Harvey's Garden ", and
WHEREAS, the Town Council finds it appropriate to waive its normal naming policy procedure
in this instance to acknowledge Harvey Rogers' great and undisputed role in the creation and
enduring success of the garden and to expedite this name change to honor him on the occasion of
his 900' birthday, and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon wholeheartedly agrees that Harvey is
singularly deserving of this honor,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Tiburon does hereby waive the
Town's naming policy and declare that the garden in Blackie's Pasture shall henceforth be known
as "Harvey's Garden ".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon joins the Tiburon
Peninsula Foundation in heartfelt congratulations to Harvey Rogers upon this well - earned honor
and authorizes the Town Manager to oversee the establishment of a suitable plaque, to be created
by the Foundation, to memorialize the garden's new name.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council on December 4, 2013, by
the following vote:
